Flora and Fawn Quilt

I'm on to Quilt #3 getting finished!  This quilt is called Flora and Fawn, same title as the line of fabric.  I started it about 8 years ago and I'm so glad that it is finally done.  :)

It's made with a jelly roll (2.5 inch strips) and some extra yardage for the borders.  I used Missouri Star's Cutting Corners tutorial and laid out my blocks in a pinwheel pattern.

Here you can see the pinwheel block.  I made the quilt 4 blocks across by 5 blocks down.  It's a fairly large throw but a nice size - not too big, not too small.

I love the colors in this fabric line; it even has little deer and mushroom images in the fabric.  I may possibly keep this quilt for myself.

The back is a polka dotted aqua color.  I would definitely make this quilt pattern again.  I have some fabric left over, so we'll see.   It can actually be completed in less than 8 years.  LOL

Two More Quilts Finished in 2024 (#3 and #4)

Before 2024 was out, I finally finished up two more quilts that I had been working on.  Here is the Red Quilt that I made using jelly rolls.

I added in some pinwheels to give it some interest.  I think it adds to the quilt.

I free motioned some roses in the quilting.  I found a rose pattern in one of Pat Sloan's books.  I practiced doodling it for about 2 weeks, then quilting it in.  I think the rose quilt pattern matches nicely with the pretty flowered fabrics in this quilt.

I'm going to keep this quilt for myself.  It's not a Christmas quilt, just red.  I know it's simple, but I love how it turned out.

This is my second Chandelier quilt.  I made it using some greens and flowered fabrics.  It's for one of my friends who loves to be outside and in her garden.

For the machine quilting, I free motioned some large flowers onto the quilt.  I love the bit of whimsy that it adds to the piece.

On the back I added a couple of strips of patchwork.  I like how it breaks up the back and gives it a little visual interest.

I'll be giving it to her in a couple of weeks for her birthday.  I don't think she reads my blog, but I guess we'll find out.  LOL

Quilts in Progress

While on the Quilt Retreat, I brought a couple of quilts that needed some work on them.  This first quilt is made from a Jelly Roll that had pretty reds and pinks in it.  I made a row of pinwheels to break up the stripes, but I wanted to add more pieces for some visual interest.  So I'm adding in some different sized pinwheels to give it more pizazz.

I did finish the quilt top at the retreat and now need to quilt it.  I hope to finish it before next Christmas so that I can have it as a red throw.

The next quilt that I brought to work on is another Chandelier Quilt from Missouri Star.  I finished up a red one to give to one of my friends at Christmas and now I'm onto a more spring-like look.  This quilt has several greens, yellows and sunflowers in it.  I hope to finish it in the next few months to give to someone special.  :)

Part of the fun in going on the retreats is to spend time with other ladies that love quilting.  We have show and tell, and share the ideas for our current and next projects with each other.  Now there's even more projects that I want to make!

We spend some time outdoors going on walks to get some fresh air and enjoy some wonderful meals together.  I can't wait for the next retreat!  When is it, again?

Finishing Quilt #1 for 2019: The Bow Wow Quilt

Remember in a previous post that I said that I was going to actually finish projects this year?  Well, I'm off to a good start!  Here is my first quilt!

I call this quilt the "Bow Wow" quilt because it has fabric in it with cute doggie images.  I started it about 4 years ago for my sister and it's been in the unfinished pile for a while.  In January I took it back out and put the squares on my design wall.  I had made some pinwheel blocks to brighten it up a bit, so I added them in rows and sewed it all together.  It's very colorful and the pinwheel blocks give it some movement.  I'm happy with how it turned out.

Here it in on my Handi Quilter getting it's machine quilting.  I am having fun learning new patterns to quilt into my quilts.  This one is very freestyle with flowers in the pinwheel blocks.

I brought the quilt into my family room to get it ready to sew on the binding and look who found it!  I swear I was only gone for a minute.  At least Ginger gives her approval.  :)

I'm sure my sister will be glad to finally get her quilt.  And she said the cat fur won't bother her in the least.  She has three dogs.  :)

Making Coasters

This time of year is always hard to post projects on my blog because almost everything that I'm working on is going to be a present for someone!  Hopefully my family won't peek at my blog before Christmas!

This week I have been working on making some quilted coasters for some of my family.  This set is going to be for my son and daughter-in-law, so I made them to match their table runners.  I decided on a 9-patch block for their coaster sets.  I even put Thinsul-Brite batting inside of them to keep the hot cups from "sweating" through the fabric.

For the next set, I made pinwheel blocks in some cheetah fabric.  These are for my daughter who loves animal prints.  After I finished sewing them, I wrapped each set in a bow and added a little stamped tag to complete the homemade look.

These coaster sets are a lot of fun to make.  They are a quick and easy project that can go in any room.

I wanted to try making some just using strips of fabric.  I love how this gray set came out.  What a great way to use up some of your scraps!  I made this set for my son.
He doesn't know it yet, but I made them in same colors as the quilt that I have been working on for him!  Shh!  Don't tell.
Which pattern do you like the best?  What colors would you use for the striped blocks?  Wouldn't they pretty in the colors of the rainbow?  I will have to try that idea next.  But I think I'll wait until after Christmas!
