Crocheting Face/Wash Cloths and More

Remember all of the cloths that I crocheted at the beginning of the year?  I sold all 50 of them to my sister who put them in her shop.  She said they were a big seller for Mother's Day gifts.

So I decided to make some more!  This time I picked up some yellow yarn from Hobby Lobby and made some creamy, soft yellow cloths.  

Here is a better view of what they look like.  Each cloth takes about an hour to make and the cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby is soft and easy to work with.  Here is an older post of mine with the pattern if you'd like to make one.  

I made the little stars a while back but they coordinate so well with these colored cloths.  

After making the washcloths, I had some leftover yarn and decided to make some flowers.  I wanted them to look like sunflowers and here is what I came up with.

To make them:

Chain 4, sl stitch to form a ring.

Row 1:  Ch 2, 11 dc in ring, sl stich in ring and tie off.

Row 2:  Sc, dc, ch 2 (repeat 12 times)

End with sl stitch in ring.  Sew in ends.

They're quick and easy to make.  I turned mine into pins that you can wear or put on a purse, etc.  One of my friends suggested putting a hair clip on the back.  Maybe I will try that next.

I cut a circle from felt using one of my Sizzix dies, glued it on and then added the pin strip.  To make the pin strips more heavy duty, I added some Sticky strip double sided tape to them.  

They're a cute little embellishment for your lapel or handbag.

Cutest Crew

The Cutest Crew is an online stamp set and honestly, just as cute as can be!  It features little cats and dogs or cute little birds.  It's whimsical and fun to work with.

For my card, I pulled out some older papers for the background.  I added a strip of the cute paw cut outs that come with the set.  I outlined the inside of the cats with a soft gray to give them some color and dimension.  

Aren't they so cute?  I've only made one card so far using this set, but there will be more, I'm sure.  
 

Greenery Lane

Greenery Lane is another stamp set that includes some pretty washi tape that you can cut images from.  It was in the Jan-April catalog.  We adhered the washi tape to some white cardstock and then cut them out for the two leaves and for the right side of the card.

The green paper is from Nature Walk designer papers.  I used the arch dies and an old saying that fit so perfectly in the arch.  I love the beautiful greens in this card.

For the next card, we used some of the leafy cut outs from the set and stamped the leaves onto vellum paper.  The blue strip is from Fitting Florets designer papers.

 

Flora and Fawn Quilt

I'm on to Quilt #3 getting finished!  This quilt is called Flora and Fawn, same title as the line of fabric.  I started it about 8 years ago and I'm so glad that it is finally done.  :)

It's made with a jelly roll (2.5 inch strips) and some extra yardage for the borders.  I used Missouri Star's Cutting Corners tutorial and laid out my blocks in a pinwheel pattern.  

Here you can see the pinwheel block.  I made the quilt 4 blocks across by 5 blocks down.  It's a fairly large throw but a nice size - not too big, not too small.

I love the colors in this fabric line; it even has little deer and mushroom images in the fabric.  I may possibly keep this quilt for myself.  

The back is a polka dotted aqua color.  I would definitely make this quilt pattern again.  I have some fabric left over, so we'll see.   It can actually be completed in less than 8 years.  LOL

 

Honeybun Colorful Quilt

If you remember last year I wanted to finish up 10 quilts by the end of the year and I certainly didn't get them done.  But now I am finally finishing some of them!

I started this quilt about 6 years ago to give to a friend of mine for her birthday.  Well, it's finally complete and I gave it to her this weekend.  A little late, but she loved it none the less.

I started with a honey bun roll of fabric (2.5 in strips) and added a few strips from my own stash.  It didn't finish up to be very big so I divided up the rows and added some sashing strips to make it a bit larger.

It has an all-over wave pattern quilted into it and I just loved doing that.  It took a little longer to quilt it but I will definitely use that pattern again.  The quilting has a nice flow and look to it.  

In this pic you can see the wave pattern and all of the beautiful colors in it.  I love the newsprint type fabric that I used in the border.  It adds a nice scrappy look to the quilt. I wish that I could find this roll of fabrics again - I just love these colors! 

Here is a photo of my friend holding her quilt.  She was happy to receive it.  :)

 

Forever Florals and Delicate Dreams

For this week's stamping class, I used the set Forever Florals.  I paired it with Delicate Dreams designer papers.  On my first card, I stamped the saying onto the cut out and then glued some Soft Suede paper to the back of it and cut out a frame.  I thought the frame that came with the dies was too wide.  

I got the idea for the card from Marita Marie on Pinterest.  Then I added some cut outs from the Forever Florals and then added a couple of "gears" from the new Gears and Textures dies.  Cute, right?  It is supposed to bring out the copper accents in the papers.

For this card, I used the pretty flower die for the background.  To cut large dies, I used a piece of wax paper under the die - I think it helps to cut them out easier.

I wanted to add a copper accent so I put the little bird cage on the card from On Display dies. The saying is from Cutest Crew.  I looked through my stamp sets and found this little bird from a gnome set from a few year's back.  I love how it turned out - a little whimsy, just like me.  :)

Here you can see the set that I used with the papers.  The die set has some pretty floral cut outs and frames for the sayings.  Very nice.

Card #3 uses a sheet of pretty flowers with green accents on it.  I folded the cardstock in half and then trimmed off 1.5 inches for the fancy fold look.  I cut out the smaller floral die in copper to give the card some pizzazz.  I even added a small gear to the top for some interest.

Friendly Foliage

This week I was playing around with the stamp set Friendly Foliage.  I made three cards, each one using the stamp in a different way.

On my first card, I just stamped the image onto a rectangle for the front of my card.  I added some small die cut flowers to give it some color.  This is a fancy fold card and on the inside, the saying moves as the card opens.  You can find the tutorial here from Connie Stewart.  

Making this card was a lot of fun and you won't regret watching her video on how to do it.  I used Everyday Happiness papers and love the subtle look to it.

When you open the card, the inside panel comes out from the hidden panel on the right side.  All of my stamping ladies, including me, loved it.

For the second card, I stamped the image and cut it out with the matching die cut.  I love how bright and cherry this card came out.  Sadly, I used up the last of this pretty paper from the Celebratory Sips designer papers. 

The third card uses the image, both stamped and cut out but I cut it out again with a second die cut, which removes the inner background pieces.  Pretty cool, huh?
