Patchwork Christmas Trees and Birds

This week I had to make a gift for my quilt guild raffle.  Because we don't have a regular meeting in December, our theme for this month is Christmas.  (I know, already!)

I decided to make some little tree ornaments that are made using 1 3/4" strips of fabrics.  I sewed four strips together and then cut them out using a 60 degree triangle ruler.  I sewed a long strip of brown fabric for the trunk by folding it in half two times ad tucking under the raw edge.

I have a lot of Fig Tree Christmas fabrics left from a few years back, and I like using them to make Christmas items.  They are such pretty reds and greens with a bit of a vintage look to them.

After making the trees, I decided to make a couple of little bird ornaments to coordinate with the set.  And you know that I love making my little birds.  I added a crocheted flower and button accent to them for the "wing."

While I have made these before, I had fun making up a new batch of them.  They're quick, easy and fun to make.  That's what I love.

What do you think of my little tree ornament assortment?  Would you put these on your Christmas tree?

I just want to make more.  :)

Bird Ornament

Each month I get together with ladies from my Stampin Up demonstrators group.  We take turns meeting at different houses.  It was my turn and I made them each a little ornament using papers from One Horse Open Sleigh and bird cut outs from Nests of Winter.

Each one is a little bit different.  I cut the circle shapes out of chip board and 2 pieces of designer papers to cover the front and the back of each one.  I fussy cut out the birds and added a stamped saying, a small ornament topper some twine.

The designer papers make it look like the birds are "in the woods."  I think if I was going to make these again, I would put them onto the wooden ornament shapes.  That would make them a little bigger and more interesting.

One-third of my downstairs is set up for making crafts and having people over.  Here is the set-up for my demonstrator friends to come over and make a couple of crafts.

I enjoy my crafting time with friends.  :)

There's a Whole Flock of Them!

I am going to be hosting an Ornament Exchange this weekend and decided to use the birds as my item to exchange.  Here are a few of them nestled in their basket ready for exchanging!

These little guys are made from designer papers that are glued onto cardboard and then cut out with the Sizzix bird die cut.  Then I cut out the wings from the pieces that were remaining so that the wings are 3D also.

Next I added stamping with some vintage images, glued a ribbon around the neck and punched some Petite Flowers for decoration.  Their eyes are pearls colored with a brown Sharpie.  Then a button with a twine bow and a ribbon for hanging completes the look.

I made them in a lot of different colors so that they can be used all year round.

Here they are all hanging on their little tree.  Do you like them?  Which color do you like the best?  Would you keep them up all year?

Peace and Joy and a Little Vintage Bird

I've been working on some cards for Christmas and wanted to try a different color scheme.  This card looks kind of vintage to me and I like the colors even though they are not the traditional Christmas colors.  I copied the design by Barbara Meyer.

I thought that the card needed "something" to go with it, so I designed this little bird ornament.  I used a Sizzix die and some vintage papers, a little stamping, ribbon, accents and a tie to hang it from the tree.  The eye is a pearl that I colored with a Sharpie marker to match the color scheme.

I had so much fun designing the bird that I think I will make some more "friends" to go with him.  Stay posted!
