Quilt Retreat Coming Up also known as Unfinished Projects

In a few weeks, I have a three-day quilt retreat to go to.  I'm looking forward to spending time with my quilty friends and work on a few unfinished quilts.  

I thought that I would bring this quilt.  It's from Corey Yoder made with her fabrics.  I've liked the pattern for a while and started this about two months ago.  It has cute sashing with stars in it and I hope to actually finish it for myself.  I have collected a lot of Corey's fabrics and feel like I could make 5-6 quilts with what I've got.  So I'd better finish at least one of them.

This soon-to be-made quilt is half square triangles made from an older line of Tilda fabrics, called Plum Garden.  One day I just took it out and started to work on this layout for it.  I don't have a pattern; I just saw a photo on the Internet. 

I'm going to bring this along with me on the retreat, also, so I'm hoping to get some things done while I'm there.  

I've numbered all of the pieces and will need to square them and sew them into rows.  I will have to figure out what to use for a border - the fabric line is old and I can't find any more of it.

But I will figure out something when I get to that point.

When I was working on the Plum Garden quilt above, I got a bit carried away and started to sew up a couple more charm square packs from assorted Tilda collections.  

So now I have enough to make a second quilt from my half square triangles.  I sewed together 144 of them last week in preparation for my quilt retreat.

We'll see what actually gets done.  LOL

FYI - there are other quilts laying around that just need borders, backing and/or quilting to finish them up.  

I'm going to try to finish those up by the end of the year.  Maybe I'll throw them in the retreat bag, as well.  I will need way more than three days, but I will try to get as much done as I can.  Wish me luck!

 

Colorful Door Banner

 This weekend I had a sewing retreat at my house and made this colorful door banner.  I found the idea for it in American Patch and Quilting magazine and it was made by Sherri McConnell.

I thought the idea was really cute so I made it using fabrics from Corey Yoder.  I happen to have a whole box of them.  But they're just so pretty, I hate even cutting them up!

I worked up my own pattern for the little house.  The one in the magazine was only 4" big and I wanted something around 6."  It took a bit longer to make than I expected; I was hoping to have 2 completed by the end of the weekend.  But I'm glad to have at least this one - I love how it turned out and of course, I want to make more of these!

I'm going to donate this banner to my quilt guild to be raffled off in April.  I usually make some sort of quilty prize for our monthly drawings.  

The banner doesn't have to be hung only on a front door.  I think it can be hung in any room where you need something colorful.  I have a quilt kit in these fabrics and one of these days, I hope to make it.  Maybe I'll make another banner to match it.  :)

Winter Quilting Retreat & My Carpenter Star Wall Hanging

During February, I attended a 4-day quilting retreat at a local conference center.  I brought along a lot of projects to work on and finish up (story of my life!).  

It was a wonderful weekend at a beautiful place with 16 other women who were working on their sewing and quilting projects, too.  

The first project that I finished was a Carpenter Star wall hanging that I started a few years ago during covid.  The pattern is from Missouri Star and was a lot of fun to make.  I used Corey Yoder fabrics from a couple of charm square packs - Strawberry Jam and Canning Day.  

Here is a close up photo of it.  I love how the different colors all work together.  I would definitely make another one of these.  By altering the size of the half-square trianges, you can work this pattern in any size.

I still have more fabrics left over from this project.  Who knows what I will make with it.  

I hung the wall hanging in my family room.  But I may find another place for it.  It's the perfect size to fill in a wall space.  :)
