Fixin' Up My Sewing Space

I made this little quilted "skirt" for my sewing machine from a McCall's pattern in the attempts to clean up my sewing space. (Ha ha!) It has three little pockets across the front to put small items in.  I especially like the quilted area at the top near the machine for a place to hold the pins.  It keeps them from rolling onto the floor!

I also made a cute little "scrap holder" to put the threads in while I am sewing.  It's made from a 10-inch quilted square and then sewn up in the corners.  The ends then fold over and are held in place with a button.  I loved making this!  I think made in different colors, this little holder would look great in any room (bathroom for holding hair clips, bedroom for holding small jewelry or coins, etc.).

I can carry this around the house with me and use it when I bring my machine up to the dining room to sew.  It holds all of the scraps that are ready to go into the garbage.

The little sewing case is for my small pairs of scissors and ruler.  You can't really see by the photo, but it has a zippered top.  Then when I pack up my machine to take places, I don't have to worry about getting stabbed with the scissors!

I'm not sure if is has totally cleaned up my sewing area, but I guess it's a good start!

Hearts are Everywhere

While I was on vacation last summer I came across this tree with a heart-shaped dent in it.  I took a photo of it.  It sort of reminds me that hearts (and love) are everywhere around us if we just look for them.  :)

Be on the lookout this week for hearts to turn up.  You might find them in the most unexpected places!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

Valentine's is one of my favorite days of the whole year!  What a great day to tell our family and friends that we love them!

I made this card last month in my last month's rubber stamping class.  I copied the idea from Vicki Burdeck who is an amazing stamper.  I always love her cards.  You can't really tell by this photo but the flowers are raised and have glitter on them.

There are so many ways to show your loved ones how much you care about them!  Don't forget to let them know today. Have a great one!

Basket of Hearts and Love

I wanted to make a display in my home filled with fabric hearts for Valentine's.  I saw a photo on Pinterest that had a basket of red homemade hearts in it.  Don't you just love Pinterest?

Red doesn't really match my decor so I made my hearts with browns and pinks.  I think I need to make a few more to make my basket "filled with love!"

Wintry Day

I woke up to this sight of snow today!  I'm glad we didn't get the one to two feet of snow that was predicted!

I like the calm hush when it snows.  There's a strange silence to the snow almost as if it is telling you a secret.

I wanted to share one of my favorite quilts with you today.  It's a wall hanging that I made from a Debbie Mumm pattern.  I sewed one-inch strips of fabrics in rows, then cut them out into flower shapes.  I had to put some stabilizer on the strips to keep them from falling apart while I sewed them onto the squares. I finished it up by adding some yo-yo's with buttons.  I just love these fabrics!

Welcome to My Blog!

Welcome to my blog!  I am so excited to share with you my creative endeavors.  I have been making crafts ever since I can remember.  I love all things textile!

I love to make things out of all kinds of fabric, yarns and even paper!  Being creative doesn't have to be the great big projects that you finish, but it can be the little things you do every day to make each day special.  So, go ahead and Be Creative Every Day!

This is the latest project that I just finished!  Cute little slippers for the girls in my family.  I send this pair off to my sister who lives in Virginia.

Here are a few of the other ones that I made.  I used the slipper pattern from Fig Tree Quilts and then modified it to fit larger feet.  I traced the bottom of my shoe for the template and went from there.  You can see that my daughter likes kitties!  She just loved her slippers!
Now I'm off to make a pair for me!
