Birdie Apron

I love making aprons for both myself and to give as gifts.  For Christmas this year, I made this "bitdie" apron for one of my friends who loves birds.  I purchased the bird fabric at JoAnn's a few years ago and remembered that I had it in my stash.  It has light green vines in it and some rust colored flowers.  So I lined the apron with a light green, making it reversible and added some rust fabric for the pockets and ties.

I had a cute bird stamp that I wanted to use to make a card to match the gift, but after stamping it in a lot of different colors, it just didn't have the look I was after.  So I made the card from a piece of the bird fabric! I ironed on some fusible interfacing and then ran it through the Big Shot with a stitched circle die.  I like how it turned out.  Now it matches the apron.

I sewed some little birds to match the apron and added some buttons for embellishments.  The birds can be either hung or placed in a display.  Then I made a little pincushion that also has the robin on it.  I added some lace and buttons to that.  I love how it all came together.  :)

Matching Aprons

Last week while I was shopping at JoAnn's I came across this cute Susan Winget fabric with little snowmen on it.  I just couldn't pass it by even though I may or may not have a lot of Christmas fabric in my stash.

I thought it would make cute aprons for my daughter and my for g-baby, who is now 1 1/2 years old.  I can't wait to give the aprons to them.  They are reversible if you want to just wear the red side for other holidays.

There is still a lot of this fabric left over so I might make for me, too.  Then we will all be matching.  :)

Sewing Up Some Aprons for Holiday Cooking

Every year I like to make some of the gifts for my friends and family.  The problem is: there's never enough time to get it all done!  And I'm one of those girls who doesn't like to work on Christmas during the summer or fall.

Anyway, this year I found a cute pattern in one of my Debbie Mumm quilt books for this apron.  It does have ties in the back, but you just can't see them in the photos.  It's totally lined on the back, which makes it reversible.  It's like getting 2 aprons in one!

My favorite is this pretty red apron with the deer.  I decorated my home in a woodland theme for Christmas this year, so when I saw the deer fabric, I went right for it!  I love it paired with the red polka dotted trim!  Do I get to keep it for myself?  Nope.  It goes to one of my crafty friends.  :)

Next up is a cute snowman-patterned apron using the same polka dotted fabric as the contrasting pieces.

I love how it's not just red and Christmas green, but a pretty soft sage.  Don't you?

And how could I resist this cute Christmas Pig fabric?  When I saw this in the fabric store, I knew right away who I wanted to give it to!  The little piggies are all decked out for the holidays and ready for baking pumpkin pies!

So cute, right?

This last apron I made for one of my friends whose birthday is the day after Christmas.  I purposely didn't use Christmas fabrics for her! Don't you just love the colorful tea cups on this?  I even cut out a couple of them to embellish the pockets.

These aprons were a lot of fun to make.  I have some pretty fabrics in my stash that would work well for this pattern.  Maybe I'll get to them in the new year...

Making Aprons to Go with Your Potholders

What do you make to go with your many potholders?  Why, aprons, of course!

Every year around the holidays all the girls in my family get together for our annual Christmas Cookie-Making Day!  This past year I made everyone an apron so that we can all match when we get together for our day.

I found some cute cupcake fabrics at Joann's and thought that it would look great made up into some aprons!  I used a Simplicity pattern and added big bright buttons on the pockets for a bit of a whimsical look.

I made each one a little different.  I had a lot of fun mixing up the fabrics and adding some polka dots.  They're not hard to make and they make great gifts for your family and friends that like to bake!

Why not make up a batch of potholders (See my tutorial at the top of the page) and some aprons and plan your own Christmas Cookie-Making Day!
