The Owls Have Flown In!

Remember the cute little owls that I made for a baby gift?  Well, I redesigned them to make them look more like a woodland decor item than a kids' toy.  He's cute, right?  Don't you love the little scarf that I crocheted for him?  And I even made a matching hexagon placemat to set him on!

Here are a few more cuties adorned in fall colors just in time for November and Thanksgiving.  The two on the ends look like they're keeping watch over the others!

Here are a few more that flew in, dressed in more of a teal-colored palate, one of my new favorite colors to decorate with.

And this one I think is my favorite.  He's sort of plain looking, but I think that I like him because of that.

Which one do you like best?

Striped & Gathered Table Runner

I just love the colors in this table runner! To make this,  I cut every other row twice as long (22") and gathered them to fit the 11" rows in between!  It's kind of hard to see the texture in this photo, but I like how it came out.  It's definitely not something that you'd want to make in a hurry because it took a long time to gather and then fit the gathered rows in, but definitely something that I would make again.

Of course I gave this as a gift to someone.  I used some fabrics that I had purchased from Joann's a couple of years ago.  They have cute little birdcages on them and I thought that they worked up nicely in this project.

I was feeling rather ambitious so I made a little owl to match the runner.  He's made with the same fabrics as accent pieces.  I made his body out of an old gray sweater that I felted.  My friend likes owls and birds and she really loved these gifts!

I Love Owls!

I just love cute little owl crafts!!!  I made this owl from a felted sweater and some felt.  (Wash a wool sweater and let it shrink.  The sweater turns into a nice piece of felt that doesn't unravel and is great for making crafts!)  Isn't he so cute?

I put a little rock in the bottom to give him some "weight" so he doesn't fall over.  I can't wait to make some more, maybe in different sizes so that there will be a little family.

The pattern is from Countryside Softies, a book by Amy Adams that I found at Joann's and just had to get!

Baby Items

I had a baby shower to go to for a friend of mine who is expecting her first baby.  She doesn't know the sex of the baby, so it made it hard to pick colors for the gift!  I made her this framed poem and decorated it with greens, tans, peach and yellows.

I found this poem in an Abbey Lane Quilt book and thought that it was so beautiful.  Every time I read it, it makes me cry!

I made her the shower card to match the framed poem.  Then I realized that I had added more orange and brown to it!  I'm not sure if they are baby colors, but it just evolved that way!

My friend is "green" and wants to use cloth diapers and wash cloths instead of wipies.  So I made her 12 washcloths from flannel and terry cloth.  I cut them out 8 1/2 inches and after they are sewn, they measure 8" square.  Then I made up a couple of bibs with the same colors.  It's so hard to guess the colors if you don't know if it's a girl or boy!

I also made a little owl plush toy.  I added some ribbon to attach the links to add toys.  The top link can be attached to a stroller or other so the baby can't drop it.  I found the owl pattern in Baby Essentials Made Easy book that I found in JoAnn's.  I hope she likes them, even if they are weird colors!
