Half Square Triangle Baby Quilt

After my trip, I had to finish up a baby quilt that I had been working on for one of my daughter's friends.  After three boys, she is finally having a girl, so I wanted to make something for her that was very pink.

I wanted to use fabrics from my stash because I thought that I had a lot of pinks.  But when I actually looked at my fabrics, not all of the pinks went together very well.

I found a layer cake (10" squares) that had some pink butterflies and gingham check in it so I make a lot of the blocks from that.

I decided on half square triangles and I just love how it turned out.

The pinks have a bit of a salmon color to them and I did find some prints in my stash that coordinated well.  She loved the quilt.  I quilted some flowers and swirls in it to make it look very girly.

When I got back from my trip, I had to have the quilt ready just a few days after my trip. I wasn't thinking about how tired I would be from the jet lag.  Ha ha - I need to work on my time management a bit more.  But I did get it done!

I loved working with the half square triangles and now I would love to make more quilts from my stash.  But I might need to buy more pink fabric for some new projects ideas.  :)

Baby Blanket & Accessories

A few weeks ago I bought a new desk for my sewing room.  The old one was very narrow and didn't fit my sewing machine very well.  So now that I have a nice place to sew I have been in my sewing room working on things and actually finishing up some projects!  I know, don't faint.  Sooner or later I do finish things.  Mostly the later.

One of our family friends had a baby last week and I made this cute little quilt for her.  I started it about a month ago and didn't finish it in time for her shower, but I feel good that the baby is only a week old and I have the gift done!

I had all of the fabrics in my stash.  I used the girl with the fox image on the fabric as the focal point and worked in some cutesy colors to coordinate with her.

The pattern was pretty simple and it went together in just a couple of days.  I would definitely make this pattern again.

And then in my spare time (!) I made some matching bibs with terry cloth on the back.

I found a pattern for some little shoes and decided to try it out.  They came out cute, but I think they took as long as the quilt did to make!  They were very tiny and I had a hard time fitting them und3er my sewing machine.  Mostly I had to sew them by hand.  They may be the first and the last pair that I make -ha ha.

Here are the bibs with the shoes.

And here is the entire gift.  I hope she likes it!

Baby Items

I had a baby shower to go to for a friend of mine who is expecting her first baby.  She doesn't know the sex of the baby, so it made it hard to pick colors for the gift!  I made her this framed poem and decorated it with greens, tans, peach and yellows.

I found this poem in an Abbey Lane Quilt book and thought that it was so beautiful.  Every time I read it, it makes me cry!

I made her the shower card to match the framed poem.  Then I realized that I had added more orange and brown to it!  I'm not sure if they are baby colors, but it just evolved that way!

My friend is "green" and wants to use cloth diapers and wash cloths instead of wipies.  So I made her 12 washcloths from flannel and terry cloth.  I cut them out 8 1/2 inches and after they are sewn, they measure 8" square.  Then I made up a couple of bibs with the same colors.  It's so hard to guess the colors if you don't know if it's a girl or boy!

I also made a little owl plush toy.  I added some ribbon to attach the links to add toys.  The top link can be attached to a stroller or other so the baby can't drop it.  I found the owl pattern in Baby Essentials Made Easy book that I found in JoAnn's.  I hope she likes them, even if they are weird colors!

Cute Baby Shower Centerpiece!

At a Baby Shower yesterday my roommate saw these cute table centerpieces made from cookies.  They really brightened up the tables.  Aren't they so cute?

Our friend Cheryl designed them.  Made from cupcake holders and cookies, the "baby flowers" are nestled in a silk plant with lots of pretty colored crepe paper to make them look so festive. The cookies are decorated with small candies to look like eyes and a pacifier.  And of course, they are edible!  I love the creativity of this!
