Half Square Triangle Baby Quilt

After my trip, I had to finish up a baby quilt that I had been working on for one of my daughter's friends.  After three boys, she is finally having a girl, so I wanted to make something for her that was very pink.

I wanted to use fabrics from my stash because I thought that I had a lot of pinks.  But when I actually looked at my fabrics, not all of the pinks went together very well.

I found a layer cake (10" squares) that had some pink butterflies and gingham check in it so I make a lot of the blocks from that.

I decided on half square triangles and I just love how it turned out.

The pinks have a bit of a salmon color to them and I did find some prints in my stash that coordinated well.  She loved the quilt.  I quilted some flowers and swirls in it to make it look very girly.

When I got back from my trip, I had to have the quilt ready just a few days after my trip. I wasn't thinking about how tired I would be from the jet lag.  Ha ha - I need to work on my time management a bit more.  But I did get it done!

I loved working with the half square triangles and now I would love to make more quilts from my stash.  But I might need to buy more pink fabric for some new projects ideas.  :)

Baby Blanket & Accessories

A few weeks ago I bought a new desk for my sewing room.  The old one was very narrow and didn't fit my sewing machine very well.  So now that I have a nice place to sew I have been in my sewing room working on things and actually finishing up some projects!  I know, don't faint.  Sooner or later I do finish things.  Mostly the later.

One of our family friends had a baby last week and I made this cute little quilt for her.  I started it about a month ago and didn't finish it in time for her shower, but I feel good that the baby is only a week old and I have the gift done!

I had all of the fabrics in my stash.  I used the girl with the fox image on the fabric as the focal point and worked in some cutesy colors to coordinate with her.

The pattern was pretty simple and it went together in just a couple of days.  I would definitely make this pattern again.

And then in my spare time (!) I made some matching bibs with terry cloth on the back.

I found a pattern for some little shoes and decided to try it out.  They came out cute, but I think they took as long as the quilt did to make!  They were very tiny and I had a hard time fitting them und3er my sewing machine.  Mostly I had to sew them by hand.  They may be the first and the last pair that I make -ha ha.

Here are the bibs with the shoes.

And here is the entire gift.  I hope she likes it!

Quilts for the Nieces

This past year I have been working on throw quilts for my nieces that live in Virginia.  Here is one that I finished for my oldest niece.  I also made her a little tote bag and a table topper mini quilt to match.

I try to stick to simple patterns so that I can actually finish my projects!  Ha ha!  This pink and teal fabric has cute girlie designs on it.  I used a basic block design with a sashing.  I added the black squares for contrast.  Once I put the top of the quilt together, I thought that it was too plain, so I added some 9-patch blocks in the borer and some assorted squares in the top border to add some interest.

Here's a close-up photo:

This is the quilt that I made for my next older niece:

It was my one of my first attempts at appliqueing pieces onto a square.  Sewing all of those flower petals on took me a LOT longer than I thought it would!  (A lot longer!)  The nice thing with the applique is that I could bring the squares with me and work on them while I was waiting during my appointment times.

I had a lot of fun working with the different bright pink fabrics and definitely ended up with may too much fabric when I was done! (I could make 10 more pink quilts with all of the fabrics that I ended up buying! But, shh- don't tell anyone!)  At the end I added some lime green in the center of the flowers and in the sashing rows to add some contrasting color.

I am still working on one more quilt for my next younger niece.  Hopefully I can finish it soon before she outgrows the fabric designs!
