Baby Bibs, Burb Cloths, Blankies & a Baby

If you have been keeping up with my life, I recently became a Nana for the first time.  :)  She's only a few weeks old and I am loving spending time with my new grand daughter.

I made my daughter some bibs using flannels and pretty soft colors.  I made up the pattern myself and used Velcro for the attachment.

One day when I was over a Joann's Fabrics, I found this pretty flowered fabric in different fabrics.  Some of it is flannel and some is cotton.  I also found it in a Minky type fabric, too and knew that I wanted to make something for the new baby with it.  My daughter loves soft colored flowers and I knew that this would make something nice.

I also made about 10 burp cloths from the flannel to match the bibs.  Then I found more of the gauze fabric and made a couple more receiving blankets with that.  The gauze fabric is nice because it's not too heavy and is just right for wrapping the baby in the summer months.

Using the flannel fabric, I stitched up some flannel receiving blankets, too.  I used a piece of flannel for the back and one for the front, so they are reversible.  I love the soft colors of these items and how well they all coordinate together.

There's plenty of fabric left over (!) and I hope to make some more items in the upcoming months.  :)

Here she is wrapped in one of the gauze blankies that I made for her.  Maybe someday she will learn to sew with her Nana.  But for today, this is all I need.

Teepee Baby Quilt

This past weekend was pretty hot here for upstate New York.  We aren't used to weather above 100 degrees and frankly, I don't really care for it when it's too hot.

So I decided to stay home in the air conditioning and work on a baby boy quilt set.  I had picked up some really cute fabric last year on my Shop Hop and took it out to make a baby quilt.  One of my daughter's friends is having a baby boy in a couple of months and I thought it would be fun to work with this cute fabric.

I cut the fabric strips into different widths and sewed them together for the quilt front.  Originally I had some orange strips in this, but didn't really like how it looked.  So I took them out and replaced them with the dotted teal.

I like how the colors are more cohesive now.  I layered it with some backing and batting and quilted straight lines in the rows.  I really like how it turned out.

I was running out of fabric for the backing, so I sewed what was left of the brown fabric to the top and bottom of the quilt.  It kind of frames it in and I like how it looks.

Then I worked on some matching bibs and put terry cloth on the back.  I love this bib pattern and like how these can be used for a long time.

I then finished off the gift set with some matching washcloths.  The more I worked with this cute fabric, the more I liked it.  I hope the recipient likes her baby set.  :)

Meet Foxy Loxy

I have had so many orders for the monkey bib sets (see previous post) that I have been making bibs almost every day!  On my last trip over to Joann's Fabrics, I picked up some cute fabric that had forest animals in it.  One of the ladies that comes over for sewing lessons saw the fabric and ordered a bib set made from the forest animal print.  Of course I had to come up with a new stuffed toy to go with it!  Meet Foxy Loxy, the latest in the felt animal collection.

Here's a close-up shot of Foxy with his bib and washcloth set.  Note the cute little "fox" card that I made to go with it!

The forest fabric had such cute little animals on it that I made a little zippered pouch to go with one of the foxes.  This set would make a cute gift for a young girl.  It just needs a card to match!

Just Monkeying Around!

I've had a couple of baby showers to go to recently.  So I made some bib sets and washcloth sets to go with them.  I thought that the bibs needed a little toy, so I came up with this little monkey who is made from felt.  I just love how he brings an added "cuteness" to the bibs!

Here he is a little closer.  I cut him from felt and added the face and ears, stitching them on using my sewing machine.  Then I stitched around his body with some DMC floss, using a blanket stitch.  Because his body has a lot of areas to stuff, I stuffed him as I was sewing him together.  Then I added the ribbon (Stampin Up, of course!) and sponged some blush ink onto his cheeks and ears.  I just love how he came out!

Here is another set that I made, using some zoo fabrics that I had.  This set is for a little girl.  I wasn't sure how I would like the bright colors, but I love them!  What do you think?
